About — Dr. Yuli Liu

Education & Training

I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program at the University of Southern California. Given the scientist-practitioner model of my graduate training, I was exposed to clinical, teaching, and research experiences that prepared me to provide psychotherapy to multiculturally diverse communities. My interest in psychology was sparked during my undergraduate years at U.C. Berkeley, where I graduated with distinction with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Asian American Studies.

I completed my predoctoral internship at the UC Irvine Counseling Center, a nationally recognized APA-accredited internship program. I also have had previous training working in community mental health centers and specialized clerkship in providing learning disability assessments to college students.

Counseling Experience

I have expertise in working with the young adult/college population and over 15 years of experience working at several university counseling centers across the University of California and California State University systems. Working as a staff psychologist in those positions has afforded me the unique opportunity to provide individual and group counseling to hundreds of individuals from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of life experiences. My counseling psychology background and value for diversity means that I approach each individual with a desire to uncover and highlight personal strengths to work through current challenges.

Supervision & Teaching Experience

I have provided training and supervision of future psychologists. I have taught courses in the past at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I have also been a lecturer for the Asian American Psychology course at UC Irvine.

Presentations

I have presented at national and state conferences in psychology (California Psychological Association, Asian American Psychological Association and the National Multicultural Conference and Summit) on topics related to Asian American mental health, including therapy practice and research.
